The title refers to the month of creation. In the composition there are definitely parallels to the month of May, when everything is already blooming and thriving and yet sometimes a couple of cold rain showers come along and dampen the euphoria a bit. So the listener of MAY also wanders through intense emotional worlds, from the cheerful 7/8 initial theme, through tender and sad interludes up to the funky and gripping finale.
