Christian Elin: soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, alto flute
Maruan Sakas: piano
Christian Elin und Maruan Sakas are two border crossers who have joined forces for a special duo: both musicians are equally at home in jazz and classical music and this love of freedom of improvisation and for the clarity of classical form is reflected in their music. Standing in the tension field between classical, jazz, film music, minimal music and ethnic reminiscence the duo Elin – Sakas creates a simple and profound music in their programmes with a great sense of beauty and which is sonically intensified by the unique combination of Elins musical instruments – from the deep, dark tone of the bass clarinet, the brilliance of the soprano saxophone to the magic sound of the alto flute.
Upcoming performances will take the two musicians to the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Lake Constance Festival and the Hohenloher Kultursommer, among others. Since its formation in 2015, the duo has already given more than 75 concerts at renowned festivals and classical or jazz series, including the Berlin Philharmonie and Jazzfest München. Internationally, Christian Elin and Maruan Sakas have performed at the Lyon Jazz Festival, the 1001 Notes Festival in Limousin, the Badia Musica Festival, the Lago di Garda International Chamber Music Festival, and the Associazione Amici della Musica - Trapani in Sicily.
With "Some kind of blues" (January 2017) and "Midsummer Night" (February 2020), the duo has so far released two albums that have been praised by the specialist press. The Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung writes about the current CD "Mittsommernacht": "Here musical freethinkers are at work who are open to all musical forms that do not operate according to the predictable, the cliché. Christian Elin and Maruan Sakas combine the art of architecture with the art of eloquent and emotional rhetoric."
